A little more progress

I've gotten the hard tail from Hammer in Hand since my last post. It's fitted to the frame but not welded yet.
The rear fender has been cut and needs some final cleaning up.
Progress is slow. I injured my back at work in Dec. of 2012 and have been going through hell. I'm going to have a stimulator put into my back soon. Hopefully that will help a little. Then I might be able to make more consistant progress.

This is a very rough idea of what the bike might look like. I love the lines that the HIH hard tail gives it.

This is a little better idea of what it will look like. I trimmed the fender and used what I trimmed for feder struts. Nothing is put together yet. It's all just sitting there.
That's a real tombstone tail light. Glass lense and glass blue dot.

Cut up the stock front fender today

I'm gonna' need a front fender to pass inspection when the time comes.
I narrowed and shortened my stock fender to fit the narrow springer.
I temporarily duct taped it together to check for fitment.
Now I just need to weld it, do some finish shaping and paint it.
I'm using u-bolts off on an old drive shaft for my Bronco that I had laying around. Gonna' clean them up and paint them.
Using the u-bolts lets me take the fender off after inspection.

Got the springer

Got the springer yesterday and couldn't wait to see what it looks like on the bike. I put my bars on and zip tied the headlight to it to see how it would look. I really like it. I have a long way to go but now I have one more piece to the puzzle.

Take care when you ship parts.

I sent the heads out to have some work done and I thought that I packed them well. I made the poor assumption that a professional, international shipping company would handle my shipment with some modicum of care. Apparently not as there were cooling fins broken off of the heads and it looked like the heads had broken through the packaging during shipping.
These heads have lasted thirty-eight years with no damage until the shipping company handled them.
I am in the process of filing a claim with the shipping company for the damage. We'll see how well they handle it.
I'll post pictures of the damage when I get the heads back.

'76 ironhead build: The beginning

This is how she looked last summer and her current state. I recently scored a sweet late 60's early 70's short springer  and a mini drum brake that needs some work but will look amazing once it's done and lace to a 21" wheel. The Hammer in Hand weld on hard tail will be on her soon. Then I need to get the engine back from the Hawg Pen. That's the local indy shop that's doing the engine rebuild for me. John and Mike there are both amazing guys. I'll keep you posted on her progress.
